A battle weary Lex Luthor arrives from the future to inform the Justice League of a new genetically modified super weapon that neutralizes super heroes. This weapon brings an end to super heroes and ultimately the fall of Earth. Lex travels to the League's present to share the super weapon and urges them to find a counter serum before it is too late. The weapon is composed of various elements and compounds that are either sparse on Earth or scattered throughout the galaxy. Of course, the league is suspicious of Lex Luthor; in preparation for this, Lex informed the government, the society of super villains, and finally his present self about the super weapon. This forces the heroes to find the pieces necessary for the weapon and develop an antidote to prevent a dark future.
The knowledge of such a super weapon creates tension between many groups:
The Governments of the world want to create it as a means to control the super powered hero and villain population.
The villains want it to take out the super heroes.
The League wants it to actually follow Lex's propsed plan; develop a counter serum.
Now it is a race against time; who will gather the pieces across the universe first?
